Stairs are difficult elements to creatively conceptualise as they require considerations about functionality, safety and accessibility, often resulting in monotonous constructions within the space. This challenge furthered by necessity to uniquely impart in element characteristics of those spaces being linked, whilst prioritizing the functional nature of the element. With this appropriacy in mind, my concepts aim to exemplify the unique stylistic features of both Trent Jansen Studio and Khyzyl Saleem.
The following design is the culmination of these thoughts and exemplifies the differing perspectives of artist and client within the space. The stairs leading up to the Kyza are sharp in their geometry, but from below maintain a professional colour palette; contrarily when viewed from above seem revitalised with a deep red tread and disjunctive straightness in the handrail. The stairs leading down juxtapose unique varieties of simple material implying a subtle elegance within Trent Jansen’s design, platforms allow for unique perspectives and feature frosted glass and flat handrails to encouraging other to take them in.
The Screenshots from the 3D model are as shown below. Due to the capabilities of the software an extra flight was added into the downstairs staircase, this allows for more landings and so furthers the intended impacts of the design.
