Masses and Site

Much like the cross discussed in class, a simplistic massing element was initially inserted with the intent being for tinkering. The aim is to provide a 'backbone' for design whilst also allowing for complex expansion that preserves the distinctive identity of the original element.

Placement of the initial massing elements allows for complex interconnections which weave in, out and through different planes; resulting in sensations of level, void and volume caused by the seemingly odd interjections that conjoin and manifold separate forms into cardinal spaces. This arises from ruminations regarding a theory of boundaries, from which the uses and potential design of such spaces can be and should be inferred, once grounded and centralised among the surrounding elements and relative spatial placement. An experimental approach in articulating planar height and depth allows for mediation between space and use, blurring the traditional bounds for and within rooms, corridors and communal areas. Small offshoots deviate assuredly from this turbulent centre with the virtues of privacy and destination, allowing normalcy with which this building is to be moderated into the surrounding landscape.

This element was rendered in Lumion with the conceptual filter which outlines the progress of its design.

Design Journal 08/03/2020

Begun translating mys section into a 3D Design, currently the exterior of the upper floor and gallery is complete. Two Stairs need to be either redesgined or added, and lansdcape modelling is incomplete. Basic progression in the build is shown through the images below. The following section has been chosen for construction. Diffuse Striation The hexagonal dome was the most obious part of the section and so was intially constructed, a smaller dome being madw within to act as a sort of photography studio for the Kyza. The stright parts of the section were elongated into a trapezoidal shape to accomodate a geodesic structure at the edge. The edges expand to emphasise the experience of the widening of the space and the panoramic views of the landscape offered. The first floor was similarly articulated with basic geometric shapes and considerations for natural lighting through galss windows.  To increase the complexity of the stuructre curves were added into the roof  to metonomise...

Week 5 models Redone

In this blog post I detail my procedure for making various architectural models of my room at different scales and through different media through snapshots of the design process. Whilst initial models were made for this task, they seemed to be messy and inadequate as reflections of my skill, and so were remade as follows. The card model 1:20, the cardboard model 1:10 and the paper model 1:50, respectively have their construction shown below . Please take time to read the text and use the images as a flip book, a sort of timelapse detailing the construction. Card Model The first task allowed for the construction of a paper/card model, initially a paper model was made but it became flimsy for proper photography, hence a new one made of card was constructed. Due to isolation restrictions all materials used were recycled, with the main white card being old manilla folders , other materials included cling wrap and recycled advertising sheets. This model is made on a 1: 20 sca...
