Cardboard Model Making

This blog post details my procedure for making an archtiectual model of my room thorugh snapshots of the desgin process. This model is made cardboard on a 1: 20 scale. The model itself was initially glued together but due to the thick corrugation the glue started to seep in and lose strength, as a result tape was added for extra reinforcement.

Begun translating mys section into a 3D Design, currently the exterior of the upper floor and gallery is complete. Two Stairs need to be either redesgined or added, and lansdcape modelling is incomplete. Basic progression in the build is shown through the images below. The following section has been chosen for construction. Diffuse Striation The hexagonal dome was the most obious part of the section and so was intially constructed, a smaller dome being madw within to act as a sort of photography studio for the Kyza. The stright parts of the section were elongated into a trapezoidal shape to accomodate a geodesic structure at the edge. The edges expand to emphasise the experience of the widening of the space and the panoramic views of the landscape offered. The first floor was similarly articulated with basic geometric shapes and considerations for natural lighting through galss windows. The 3D model is almost complete textures and materiality still remain, along with the sloping of the gorund as well as the completeion of online activites regarding the model (including adding the custom textures), depending on time constraints I will endevour to reder this in Lumion. Work proceded on the model as external components were brought in to imply usage for the spaces on the floor above. These componets were veichles and car lifts imported from Sketch Up's native 3d warehouse, and are credited in the photos below. Stairs from the first submission were brought in and integrated, to help define access to the above and below levels. The Monolithic cieling of the vestibule was given character with intircate roof art to create textures and depth. A ramp up to the Kyza was installed in the centre of the gallery, whilst the stairs remian ofsset to the left, a sort of symbol prioritizing the access of cars to the first floor rather than that of people. The 3D model is approaching completion whilst basic materiality and interior detailing still awaiting completion. The mountainside terr ain was constructed being careful to follow the curved lines of the geodesic sphere. This took considerable time and computing power as detail had to be constantly added such that the overlap between the ground and below space could be sufficiently reduced. The elements referenced below were used in the futher detailing of spaces. The interior of Jansen's studio begun to take form with the development of a geometrically complex interior, abstracted through the undulation of points within the wall surface. Walls were added to better define the studio space whilst the bottom stairs were adjusted to better suit the liveliness of the space. However lots of improvements must be made to the proportions, textures and depth of the spaces.
