Week 7 and 8 STL Fusion Shape

This task was my first use of Fusion 360, and required the construction of an object which had the sectional profiles of my initials and constant curvilinear conjoining edges. Since I don't have a middle name I used the last letter of my first name. Here's how to do it!

Pick a plane perpendicular to the origin on which the shape is to be drawn. Create a sketch on said plane and the proceed to draw out your letter.
Create offset planes from the original plane and sketch letter profiles onto them.

Use the loft fuction to extrude a curvilinear edge through all of the sections.
Use the shell function to create a new body within the existing section, to carve out a shape.
Quick Tip: Fusion randomly creates the conjoining paths, so it's worth re-clicking loft from a different part of the UI as it often gives similar results!
Bonus Tip: Fusion has unpredictable functions, so make shapes as boxy as possible and don't give up desppite the plethora of error messages from both loft and shell. To give you some confidence I have attached a blooper reel below!

Fusion 360 Material Renders

The next part of the task involved applying three material sets in accordance with one's personality.

The first set is composed of silver and polished mahogany. It stems from deep thought about my ideals, my architectural motto of 'wood is good!' and my desire to become a sustainable design/engineering consultant which recognises Alvar Aalto's ideas about the 'harmonious enhancing factor' of the human touch within a landscape. Deeply drawn to the age and purity within both materials, used disjunctively for thousands of years, I marvel at the beauty of their combination.

The second set is composed of Jade and dark blue glass. I'm a big fan of simplicity and elegance when it comes to my work, writing or blog!

The final set is composed of frosted glass and polished oak. I tend to be quite light hearted and quite transparent in thought and expression.

The initial model was made of paper at 1:50, hence everything seemed pliable allowing me to make important decisions on larger elements; including the forms, windows and doors. A 1:20 cardboard iteration provided rigidity in form diverting focus to the furniture, its intricacies and arrangement, within the allotted spaces. An additional light source allowed me to refine a space (the upstairs living quarters) by altering the forms in a more decorous manner. Pleased with the quality of the output I will henceforth endeavour to include model making within ...
